FOCUS : Petzl Roc Trip China

Le Petzl RocTrip Chine s’est tenu du 26 au 30 octobre 2011, il a rassemblé plus de 600 grimpeurs et les membres du team Petzl. Tout ce beau monde s’est jeté sur le rocher à la découverte de nouvelles lignes (250 voies), spécialement équipées pour l’occasion.

Parmi les moments forts, on peut voir le premier enchaînement par Dani Andrada d’une voie extrême de 7 longueurs, Corazon de Ensueno (8c / 5.14b), qu’il a lui même équipée en 2010 lors d’un voyage préparatoire au Petzl RocTrip. Cette voie lui a valu le Golden Piton décerné par Climbing Magazine.

Il y a également l’enchaînement de Lost in Translation (8a+ / 5.13c) par Stéphanie Bodet et Arnaud Petit, ainsi que la première ascension de Coup de Bambou (9a / 5.14d) par Gabriele Moroni, et de nombreuses autres voies majeures du site.

FOCUS : Holtanna – big wall et base en Antarctique

Novembre 2009, au cœur de l’Antarctique, au pied du massif de l’Holtanna (Terre de la Reine Maud), quatre aventuriers et professionnels de la montagne ont réalisé le premier saut en base-jump du continent, une première mondiale.

Le groupe était composé de :

Sam Beaugey, membre du team Petzl, guide de haute-montagne et base jumper,
Manu Pellissier, guide de haute-montagne et himalayiste,
Sébastien Collomb-Gros, skieur et base-jumper,
Géraldine Fastnacht, snowboardeuse et base-jumpeuse.

Dans des conditions climatiques extrêmes, avec des températures pouvant atteindre les -40°C, Sam et Manu ont fait l’ascension de l’Holstinnd et de l’Holtanna ; puis Géraldine, Seb et Sam ont sauté en wingsuit depuis ces deux sommets. L’Holstinnd est le plus grand saut en base jump de la Terre des manchots, car il culmine à plus de 1000 mètres au-dessus du glacier du Syginnbryn.

Skateistan: To Live And Skate Kabul is a beautiful and moving short film that follows the lives of two young skateboarders from Afghanistan who attend the Skateistan project. Juxtaposing the harsh reality of life in Kabul with the hopes and ambitions of the country’s children, the film is a touching ray of light from a country only ever in the news for all the wrong reasons.

Les films retraçant une expédition sont toujours montés après le retour, avec du recul et en apportant une vision qui peut s’éloigner du ressenti de l’action. L’équipe qui a fait la première ascension du Tawoche au Népal a voulu retrouver l’instantanéité en produisant une série de films à chaud pendant l’expé. Ils ont donc emmené avec eux tout le matériel de tournage et de montage sur la montagne et une bonne connexion satellite pour transmettre tout ça.

As it happens est la synthèse de cette expérience.

As a climber sometimes our biggest job is to try to do justice to the amazing stories of our friends and peers. For this piece I worked with our crew at camp4collective.com to tell thenorthface.com athlete Jimmy Chin’s jimmychin.com story as he in turn highlights modern day climbing in Yosemite for a National Geographic feature story.

It seemed so serendipitous to be ‘on assignment’ in a place that we all cut out teeth as adventurers and which also ended up becoming the namesake of our collective!

Charity Water est une ONG américaine qui se consacre aux problématiques de l’eau potable dans les pays en développement. Elle a été fondée en 2006 par Scott Harrisson à New York et a déjà financé plus de 6000 projets dans le monde grâce aux dons récoltés.
